First project: economics of power plants Simone Fedeli 892133 Luca Grippo 829683 Filippo Mecarelli 892120 October 2017 1 The purpose of this analysis is to perform an economic comparison of some power production technologies present nowadays in the market. These technologies are: • Hydro: hydroelectric pumped storage power plant. • PWR: nuclear power plant with pressurized water reactor. • NGCC: natural gas- red combined cycle. • HDGT: natural gas- red heavy-duty gas turbine in simple cycle. • ADGT: natural gas- red aero-derivative gas turbine in simple cycle. • NGSC: natural gas- red steam cycle. • CHP: combined heat and power natural gas- red combined cycle. • PCSC: pulverized coal steam cycle + FGD. • IGCC: integrated gasi cation combined cycle. • USC: pulverized coal ultra-super critical steam cycle + FGD. • CSP: concentrated solar power plant with parabolic trough, diathermic oil, steam cycle. • Wind: on-shore wind farm (two dierent plants considered, with dierent nominal wind speeds: 8m/s and 15m/s, respectively). The input data for the dierent power plants are as follows: Note #1: the electric e ciencies of the CSP and Wind plants are calculated with respect to nominal conditions (direct irradiation of 0.8kW/m2 for the CSP plant and wind speeds of 8 and 15m/s for the two Wind plants). Note #2: the equivalent annual hours of the CSP and Wind plants are calculated considering the output power at nominal conditions. Note #3: the nominal electric e ciencies ηnomel must be corrected to account for real-world operation (o-design operation, fouling, wearing etc.).
