Logistics Management - 22.07.2020 The exam is composed by 5 exercises. The first sections of exercises 1 and 2 need to be solved on paper. Solve them, report the required results on Form (we will use them to check the coherence with the PDF you will upload) and you will be able to upload the PDF on a second Form, whose link will be provided al the end of the exam. All the multiple-choice questions require an explanation of the answer. If it is not correct or missing, the answer will be considered wrong. 1 EXERCISE 1 - B Alfa S.p.A. wants to replace the conventional manual storage system with an AS/RS made of single deep selective racks and served by one S/R machine per aisle. The required storage and throughput capacities are 14,000 pallet loads and 110 pallet loads/hour respectively. Assuming the following design parameters: - dimensions of the bay: Length L = 1.8 m; Depth D = 1.3 m; Height H = 1.6 m; - two pallet locations per bay; - I/O point at the 3rd level; - maximum rack length = 85 m; - maximum rack height = 30 m; - horizontal speed (excluding acceleration/deceleration) of the S/R machine = 2.1 m/s; - vertical speed (excluding acceleration/deceleration) of the S/R machine = 0.8 m/s; - fixed positioning time = 6s; - fixed time for the fork cycle = 11s; - acceleration + deceleration time = 8s; Assuming furthermore that: - 80% of the cycles are dual command cycles; - F.E.M. 9851 is applicable, (20/30) You are requested to size the AS/RS system (Please do all the computations needed on the paper, and then report the required results in the following dedicated space.
