Politecnico di Milano DEMANUFACTURING 25th January 2021 1/5 EXERCISE 1 PolarCam S.p.A is a company leader in cameras production. They sell products from analogical models to digital ones, till to modern sport cameras since 1954. Headquartered in Tokyo, they have a total turnover of about 12 billion euro, with production sites in Poland, Brazil, USA, South Korea and India. Their products are the best in terms of quality and design, with high-added value. CEO of PolarCam S.p.A. wants to implement Circular Economy solutions to increase the turnover reducing the environmental impact of the manufacturing process. Thanks to their Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) they are able to collect their End -of-Life products . As a consequ ence, they are evaluating the implementation of a remanufacturing line located in Italy of their most sold model . Each product will be disassembled, inspected, remanufactured and reassembled in a new product. The Research and Innovation team, where you ar e involved, is now preliminary evaluating the economic feasibility of the disassembly process. A layout of the product is shown in Figure 1 .1 (exploded view). The new disassembly line will be designed in order to recover the maximum number of reusable components from the End-of-Life products. When the disassembly of parts/components is economically unsustainable, the part/component should be sent to secondary treatment, performed by an external company with a related cost. The following data are known: - Scheme of the valve. - Bill of Materials (BOM), including information about task time, End of life value and disposal cost for each component. - Additional information and constraints. o Component 5 must be the last one to obtain (in case of complete disassembly). o Component 6 is blocked by…
