L.D.D. Advanced building envelope components engineering - Paolo Rigone Info 9 CFU Individual oral examination - Lectures, Seminars, Project* *Final report: - Technical report (data sheet..) - Architectural drawings (plants 1:200, sections 1:20, elevations 1:200) - Detailed drawings (1:2, 1:5) - Legenda materiali (can also be asked during exam) Lez 1: 6/03/17 - Main functions of the building envelope ¨ Transmit to the supporting structure of the building permanent loads (dead load) and variable loads (wind load, snow load, horizontal live load, seismic load..) --> note: 1 - horizontal live loads [KN*m]: pressure of people against the building skin (from inside to outside) --> people protected from falling ('safety in use') (pressure magnitude depends on destination 2 - wind force: can also come from inside (normally the building is in overpressure compared with outside) (pressure/suction) ¨ Physical separation between inside and outside environment ¨ Defend internal spaces from external agents ¨ Control the transmission of energy flow between the interior and the exterior of the building ¨ Control natural lighting and visibility through the building system ¨ Control ventilation of internal spaces ¨ Control passage of people and goods between interior/exterior spaces ¨ Control temperature and humidity (depends on envelope transpirability - vapour permeability) ¨ Thermal performance of building (depends on thermal transmittance) ---> U-value of single components and DT [W/m*k2] (usually W = Pa --> easiest to express wind load) Openings: heat losses due to: L.D.D. - Thermal transmittance - Thermal bridges - Ventilation --> soundproofing behaviour depends on: tightness of window (air transmits sound!) --> also affects health (pollution) eg. Northern buildings : high % of…
