1 IT-M1-01 - INTRODUCTION TO PRODUCTION SYSTEMS Production (process) = set of activities (process) required to produce goods or services delivered to the market by a company Production system = a subsystem of the company. It uses resources as inputs – raw materials, semi-finished goods, energy, information, knowledge, etc. – to provide products and services in order to satisfy the customer needs and the objectives established by the company’s strategy Production plant = physical plant where the production system is established. Production systems are based on production factors, elements th at are relevant for the production of goods since their design is influencing the final product; they might be physical factors such as material, money and machines but also non -physical factors such as energy and data. FACTORS -> -> PRODUCTS AND SERVICES In order for production to be supported logistics is implemented: a) Outbound logistic: Material acquisition, data and information retrieval (Procurement). b) Inbound logistic: Transformation Raw materials into components and parts then transformation Components and parts into final products. (Production). c) Outbound logistic: Sales and distribution. The term industrial technology refers to p roduction systems that can be based on different technologies; the production itself is a conglomeration of new product development and by the production & logistics. The new product development is formed by the market analysis, the production design and industrialization, while the purchasing of materials, production, sales and distribution form the production and logistics. Products are made by several activities in which we transform raw material to final product. How to define a production system? 1- Production processes “ASME Diagram”:…
