LEADERSHIP AND INNOVATION LESSON 0 - COURSE INTRODUCTION We can distinguish two cases when talking about innovation: 1. Innovation is my only job: - skills, resources (time, space) - context (only innovation) - exogenous (I’m not the user) -> I’m a problem solver (how): give me a challenge 2. Innovation is not my only job: - no skills, no resources - ambidexterity - endogenous (I’m the user) -> I search for meaning (why): help me to shape the challenge, help to bring others onboard We will focus on the second case. The main challenge is to make people adopt the innovation and change their behaviour. We want to change the meaning of a product/service/process in the mind of customers. All things humans have done are based on large-scale operation. Humans use their language not only to describe reality, but also to create fictional stories. As long as everybody believes in the same story, everybody obeys the same rules. Money is not an objective reality, it is the most successful story ever invented and told by humans because it is the only story that everybody believes.
