Titolo presentazionesottotitoloMilano, XX mese 20XXFUNCTIONAL EVALUATION LABORATORYIntroduction of the courseEmilia Ambrosini -A.Y. 2021-2022 Ambrosini Emilia, DEIB WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL EVALUATION?22 Functional assessment measures an individual’s level of function and ability to perform specific tasks on a safe and dependable basis over a defined period.KEY TERMINOLOGYFunction:is the purpose of the system of interest (e.g. to move a limb, to communicate, to feed or care oneself..)Performance: it measures how well a physical system of interest executes an intended function. Performance is multidimensional (e.g. strength, range, speed, accuracy, endurance, …) Behavior: it characterizes what a system can do naturally. A given variable (e.g. movement speed) can relate to both performance and behavior depending on whether the system was maximally challenged to respond “as fast as possible” (performance) or simply observed during operation (behavior). Ambrosini Emilia, DEIB WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL EVALUATION?23 Which is the system of interest? -Cognitive system-Speech production system -Auditory system -Visual system -Neuro-muscular system-Cardiovascular system-Respiratory system ßFOCUS OF THIS LABORATORY COURSE: Motion and Posture analysis Ambrosini Emilia, DEIB HOW TO MEASURES FUNCTIONS?24 Subjective measurements•Made by humans without the use of instruments•Often referred to: “Functional assessment scales” and are typically aimed at obtaining a global index of an individual’s ability to function independently in the world•Quick and inexpensive to administer•Low discriminating power Objective measurements•Result from the use of instruments •BUT: the mere use of an instrument does not guarantee complete objectivity. •The measures depend on: the instrument used, the protocol, the…
