SOLAR AND BIOMASS POWER GENERATION AY 2023-24 19th January 2024 Prof. Marco Binotti Time: 90 minutes Instructions for the examination: 1) Clearly indicate your surname and name on all the sheets you will deliver. 2) The score refers to exercises done in a comprehensive manner with exact numerical results. Numerical results correct but not accompanied by expla- nations will not be taken into account. The final score can be normalized according to the average results. 3) Answer briefly and clearly only to the asked questions. Calculations and explanations which do not respond to the questions will not be considered for evaluation even if correct. 4) Talking with colleagues and / or cheating will cause the cancellation of the exam. 5) All the needed data for the resolution of exercises lies on this paper. It is NOT ALLOWED to use material other than this (e.g. books, clipboard etc.). 6) Not all the provided inputs are necessary for the problem solving PV exercise (15 points) Question A (6 points): Design1 a PV plant to be placed on ground in Munich (48.8 N, 11.34 E) used for elec- tricity selling. The land available is 180 m x 120 m, with the longest side along the N/S direction. Consider a buffer of 5 m from the land limits. Assuming the PV module (JKM 450 M) and inverter characteristics reported below, determine the DC and AC sizes of the plant, the number of inverters and the PV connections assuming that all strings are composed by the same number of modules in series (it is not necessary to check the conditions at minimum and maximum temperature: i.e. assume constant cell temperature equal to 25°C throughout the year). The PV modules are 30° tilted, portrait oriented (1P configuration), and with a distance that guarantees no shadowing at solar noon at winter solstice.…
