~ 1 ~ Project Management Summary 1. Introduction A good Project Manager needs: - knowledge of the output (technical background); - behavioural competences; - managerial and organizational competences; - Project Management competences (planning and control tools)  focus of this course 2. Project definition and characteristics A project is an organized, temporary and unique endeavour whose aim is to produce a unique output. The project vagueness is high at the start, then it decreases with the progress of the project. Project Management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to understand, control and meet the project requirements. It includes: - Identifying requirements; - Stakeholder characterization and management; - Balance of the competitive project constraints, as scope, quality, schedule, budget, resources, risk There is an important difference between: - Strategic objectives (do the right thing): company’s objectives, the strategic and long-term reasons to undertake a project (income increase, advertisement, test of new technologies, build strong relationships with suppliers, but also customer satisfaction). These objectives have to be understood and clarified before the project starts; - Specific objectives (do the thing right): specific to the project itself, they are the satisfaction of time, cost and scope targets (do what the customer wants). After the project start, we have to reach these objectives. Understanding the need or the opportunity for the output (feasibility studies) Design of the output, with development of sche dules and plans (set the baseline) Implement the project as baseline plan and control that its progress respect that baseline plan, and in case make a recovery plan ~ 2 ~ The Project Management Tools can be…
