INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGIES: EXAMPLES OF QUESTIONS Question 1 – STRENGHTS OF A JOBSHOP Illustrate how flexibility is a primary strength of job shops; while doing this, clearly clarify the different flexibility dimensions discussed during the course and their relationships. Question 2 – PRODUCT FAMILY IDENTIFICATION Considering the Group Technology, focus on the identification of product families based on the classification of products (in the remainder, shortly referred to as PFI). In this regard, you are required to present the informal methods and the part coding analysis methods by means of: i) an illustration of their pros and cons; ii) a description of the way they are applied (when answering this sub - question, clear out also how the product features are helpful for making PFI in each type of method). Question 3 – OBJECTIVES AND CONSTRAINTS OF ASSEMBLY LINE BALANCING Illustrate (with adequate details to motivate the illustrations): (i) technical objectives, (ii) economical objectives and (iii) constraints to be considered when doing the assembly line balancing. Question 4 – ROUGH DESIGN OF A TRANSFER LINE (SINGLE-MODEL) Describe the rough design of a transfer line in case of a single-model. You are invited to illustrate all the steps required. When illustrating some steps, do not forget to remark: i) the characteristics of the demand of products that are adequate to invest on a line; ii) the solutions that can be typic ally adopted when doing the line balancing. Question 5 – FACTORY PHYSICS: WORST CASE PERFORMANCE Illustrate, based on the example of the Penny Fab, a production line dynamics, with the purpose to clarify the behaviour in its worst-case performance.
