Lezione 20/03/20 SETTING THE STAGE Which are the most relevant challenges for HC? (Today the most relevant challenge is to face the Covid - 19) The perfect storm: when a combination of many factors may really generate a storm How to generate value and sustainability (financial sustainability) ? HC is facing some issues. Our economy is not growing so fast, this is a problem because out HC systems are taxes based, so in a system in which GDP is not growing is difficult to sustain Health Care . The system is not very able to fight Covid - 19. The GDP is not growing, the only possibility we have in order to make it grow is the out pocket of citizens. This may be common in many countries, but it’s not typical in Europe in which health care is tax based. The sec ond fact is the ageing of the population, the elderly people are growing year after years, they are expensive. Ageing is one of the priorities for the European commission. We are the oldest population w/ japan worldwide , if we combine GDP issues and ageing , we understand the crisis of the health care. Technology in an opportunity to doing things in different ways, but it’s growing to fast and it’s very expensive. Every nine minute we have new app on the stores worldwide and every 35 min there is a new pat ent related to health care, the problem is that the system is not able to digest all this technology. There are so many offers that the system is not able to evaluate. The last thing is about activations: citizens want to play a major role in HCM, citizens want to be engaged, the European commission allows citizens to take education in this subject: patient may have a relevant role in HC, they have to be part of the HC. Patient innovation phenomena: patients by themselves develop innovations, not anymore on ly…
