HEALTHCARE MANAGEMENT LECTURE 1 What is the MED-TECH industry? It is a combination of biomedical industry and digital industry. Our desire is to assess a new technology and to search how to major the value of a med-tech innovation. Which “challenges” for health care? There’s the opportunity of redesign healthcare and re-think healthcare in a different way, in respect to what we know so far. “The perfect storm” is formed by little problems, if happened together, it’s difficult to manage the situation. Before Covid-19, the challenges of HCS are value and sustainability; you need to improve healthy workers to be competitive to other country and financial sustainability is the capability to use resources to deliver value. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is the capability of a country to growth and describes the health economics state: in Italy this value decreases, so we have an increase of demands, and we have the problem to search resources to answer to these questions. Aging of patients is another problem, because aging means fragility and health problems that have a great support to manage it. Affordability is not to ask other amount of money for systems, considering the out-of-pocket, means to pay taxes + other money to have a service, and this is a problem, because it creates groups based on richness and money power. We have many new technologies on health system, but they are so expensive: in European zone every 36 minutes there is a new patent of medical device that is ready to go to market and this is a problem, because the number of new technologies is so high and there is no time to assess them. Every 9 minutes we have a new app, and we have not time to collect new data to improve and control them. 12 months is the period to collect data, assess performance of…
