01. Simulation on Simulink and SimEvents 1 INTRODUCTION We need components and generator to create the model, we have discrete events; discrete events are useful to understand how the system behave from an upper perspective, without going in the detail of how the machine works. With Matlab we have the possibility to describe in an easy way the Discrete Event simulation model, because it is able to have the entity of the system, the product, the component, the machines, the queue, if we have buffer or initial warehouse… Discrete Events Computational Model: - The software has to be able to instantiate the different parts of the system (entity, resources, queues, attributes) and to describe the different behaviour of the system (status, events, activities). Attribute: characteristics of the entity (ex: we can say that the batch is composed by 6 parts) - As complexity of the system grows, we see the need for intuitive tools that can both provide flexibility and user friendliness. - Solution of that can be found within Matlab product, namely Simulink, and its specific library SimEvents. MATLAB AND SIMULINK SimEvents is a discrete events system simulator which models the behaviour of Entities as they pass through a constructed model. It allows also for analysis of all the Signals describing system status build in machinery. It is moreover connected to Matlab, allowing us to use the extensive libraries and providing full integration of own written functions. (SimEvents is inside Simulink) SimEvents is able to represent entity as product or batches of products, and we will analyze how the entities will go through the system, from the entrance in it to the exit, analyzing some parameters (ex: lead time, how is going the buffer…); we analyze the system only when something…
