Industrial Technologies – Job Shop Exercise Exercise 1 A company organized the production of goods in different departments, distributed with the typical layout of the job shop. The turning department works on one shift of 8h, 5 days/week, 44 weeks/year. The following coefficients have been estimated: TR = 0,9 (Trial Rate) SR = 0,05 (Scrap Rate) A = 0,95 (Availability) HC = 0,9 (Human Coefficient) SE = 0,8 (Scheduling Efficiency) The turning department works on 5 different products as described in the following table Product ID Annual demand Processing time (min.) Part 1 2000 20 Part 2 1000 30 Part 3 1000 45 Part 4 2000 45 Part 5 2000 45 The setup time between each batch is 2 hours. The products are always produced in quantities of 100 pieces each, independently of annual demand. The objective is to calculate the number of lathes required to meet the annual demand of production. Exercise 2 In a small business it is going to design a new production system , organized in job shops. Two departments (M1, M2) will be installed and they will serve to produce 2 product types (A and B). The bill of process of the two products are as follows (Unit, Cycle time on productive resource in [min / pcs]): • A: (M1, 25) - (M2, 15) • B: (M1, 15) - (M2, 25) The annual demand of the two products is given below: • A: 12,500 pieces • B: 47,500 pieces The production system will work two shifts of 8 hours per day, 300 days /year. Furthermore, some coefficients have been defined: the availability (A) of 0.9, the hum an coefficient (HC) of 0.9 and the trial rate (TR) of 0.85 for both departments. The scheduling efficiency is instead of 0.88. There are no production waste. In M1 department, setup lasts about 2 hours for each change of production; in M2 department, setup lasts instead 3 hours for…
