Monte C arlo simulation exercise 1 E XERCISE : M ILITARY R ADAR R EPAIR Company M is in charge of the repair of military radars according to an after - sales contract agreement with the operators of airplanes’ fleets, where radars are embedded. Within the maintenance center of Company M, the repair activities are organized as follows. When a worker rece ives a non - functioning radar , he/she first checks the typology of the radar, then he/she gives the radar a brief inspection to identify possible visible damages (e.g. burnt electronic boards). During this fi rst check, the worker is supported by an inspecti on checklist. After the initial inspection, the worker generates an internal identification document, which will serve to identify the radar during the following phases of the reparation process. After the inspection, the radar proceeds to a test phase. D uring this step, a second specialized worker identifies radar’s failures by means of specific equipment, used to simulate functioning cycles according to the parameters the radar has been designed with. As a result of this phase, it could even happen that no failure is observed: in this case the radar is going to be sent back to the customer, after it has gone through a phase where it is prepared to be delivered. During this step, the supervisor of the Maintenance Center signs an authorization document that will serve as commission of delivery: the authorization is needed due to the high economic value of the managed components, and aims at certifying the actual results obtained after inspection and test. On the other way around, if failures have been ident ified during the test phase, the radar goes through the so - called reparation phase.
