Synthetic program: The course offers a general overview for the process design and operations with specific focus on the non-conventional units and operational aspects (optimization and control). The course completes the analysis of conventional units by means of the assessment of start-up and shutdown process dynamics and investigates ex novo the peculiarities for design and operation purposes of more complex units such as dryers, spray dryers, evaporators and condensers, effects, lyophilizes, crystallizers, cooling towers, cyclones, membranes and other gas/solid and gas/liquid separations. The course combines theoretical aspects with practical experiences and plant tutorials/visits as well as tutorial for detailed simulation and plant programming. The final aim is to provide to the student an overall view of the plant behavior and operational guidelines.
