Chemical Processes and Technologies (Prof. Laura Pellegrini) Binary distillation A liquid mixture at its bubble point contains 30 mol% of benzene and 70 mol% of toluene and must be fractionated in a standard plate distillation column, operated at atmospheric pressure. The distillate and the bottom products have to contain, respectively, 95 mol% and 4 mol% of benzene. Adopting a reflux ratio equal to 1.3 times the minimum reflux ratio , compute the number of ideal stages required to perform the separation, using the following three methods: the graphical Mc Cabe-Thiele method; the analytical Mc Cabe-Thiele method; the Fenske-Gilliland method. Data Component A B C TNB [K] Benzene 15.9008 2788.51 -52.36 353.3 Toluene 16.0137 3096.52 -53.67 383.8 Antoine equation: 0ln( ) BPA TC , with T in [K] and P° in [mmHg].
