You will gain the ability to run your scripts offline and will get a massive performance boost: this setup is from 2x to 6x faster than the free tier of Colab, depending on your computer! 😎 🗒 Overview of what weʼre doing Since Firedrake requires a Linux environment, weʼre going to install WSL Windows Subsystem for Linux) that allows to run Linux binaries (= source files) natively in Windows. Inside that installation, we will install Firedrake and its dependencies, and then JupyterLab, which is basically the big brother of Colab (think of Colab as a cloud-hosted, limited, freemium version of JupyterLab). NMDP  Windo ws 2 This setup takes more or less one hour, but most of the time youʼll be just waiting for packages to be installed in your computer: for example, one of the steps can take from 10 to 25 minutes on an average computer, but up to 1 hour for really old ones. The steps were doubled-checked and the installation reproduced on 2 different devices, all without problems.
