SUSTAINABLE APPROACH TO THE BUILDING DESIGN PROCESS Prof. Mainini Andrea Giovanni GROUP 13 De Donatis Lorenzo -876178Santoianni Genny, Nicole -884523Stucchi Simone -874442 GROUP 13 Building Envelope DesignPOLITECNICO DI MILANO INTRODUCTION The proposed building is located in Milan 4%5%10%20% 22%39% Since 2006 the demand of co-working spaces has doubled each year . This kind of office layout is a new style that involves a shared working environment through different companies. Therefore we decided that this building, by having two public spaces which are a restaurant on the last floor including a terrace and a small supermarket in the underground floor, reaches the requirements of a mixed-use building. Functional subdivision of different areas within the building (%) GROUP 13 Building Envelope DesignPOLITECNICO DI MILANO IES MODEL GROUP 13 Building Envelope DesignPOLITECNICO DI MILANO BUILDING ORIENTATION 5860626466680 30 60 90 120 150180210 240 270 300 330 Building energy needs depending on the orientation (MWh) Energy … Why focusing on orientation? It is possible to observe sensitive changes in the annual total energy consumption for heating and cooling while rotating the building. The best orientation for the building is discovered to be around 180 degrees from North as we can see from the graph on the right. From an overall analysis of our building we can deduce that the best orientation for our building is 140°from North (anti-clockwise), using the reduction of energy consumption as primary influencing factor but also taking into account nature, noise and people fluxes relative to our context. Context analysis: -Nature, noise, pedestrian paths Overall considerations GROUP 13 Building Envelope DesignPOLITECNICO DI MILANO ROOM CHOICE Cooling as driving force A…
