Department of Energy Engineering Energy Economics The economy of electric cars: the new storage system Mohammad Eskandari, Filippo Re, Tommaso Ferrucci , Bernardo Falchini, Abstract In this report we analyse the Electric Vehicles (EV) actual market situation and Total cost of ownership. Then we researched the Forecasts and future scenarios of EV market. And finally we discuss about a new vehicle to grid opportunity for storage. In order to reduce emission of CO2 and to mitigate the greenhouse effect, two distinct trends are oc- curring: 1. The rapid growth of the electric car market [ 1]. (a non negligible part of CO2 emission come from road transportation) 2. The increasing employment of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind [2] The last trend, during last years, led to the growth of some problems like: grid’s instability, temporary energy de- mand/supply unbalance, need to build backup power plants (to join the peak demand). The main cause of all these problems is linked to the fact that these types of renewable sources are not predictable. According to IEA, that refers to the existing climate policy, to solve the above mentioned problems and in order to keep global warming below 2 degrees Celsius we need 266GW of energy storage by…
